The Bureau Valley Storm captured their second straight top 10 finish at state this year, finishing eighth in Class 1A. They capped off a season that could be called “Keeping up with the Johnsons,” as three of the Storm’s top runners Derrick, Ryan, and Trent, all share the surname.

OREGON — Falling behind 19-3 against Milledgeville in the opening game of the Oregon Tip-Off Tournament, Hall’s girls’ basketball team never would recover Wednesday. Milledgeville eventually made it a running clock in the fourth quarter, winning 55-23.

KEWANEE – With under a minute to play in the third quarter, the Annawan/Wethersfield Titans had the ball at the Gibson City Falcons’ 28-yard line, looking to take the lead in class 2A quarterfinal football action Saturday. The tide turned, however when Stephan Birt picked off a Sean Walker pass at the two to stop the Titans, then led his team 98 yards down the field to retake the lead 26-20 with 6:40 to play in the game.

Annawan/Wethersfield’s lone loss this season came in a 33-0 Week 2 defeat to Mercer County. The Titans’ Week 3 playoff opponents, Gibson City-Melvin Sibley, punched their tickets into the 2A quarterfinals by blowing out that same Mercer County squad, 60-19.
Roanoke-Benson senior Hannah Knepp and Ottawa Marquette sophomore Cordy Murphy headed the 2009 Tri-County All-Conference Volleyball Tournament with unanimous selection.
