OREGON — St. Bede advanced to the Oregon 2A Sectional softball finals behind the right arm of senior Lainie Schweickert and the bats in the bottom half of their order on the way to a dominating 6-0 victory Tuesday over Rock Island Alleman.

CHARLESTON — Three Bureau County athletes brought home state medals from IHSA State Track and Field competition Saturday in Charleston.
PERU — Lainie Schweickert typically doesn’t need much run support, sporting a 0.52 season’s ERA. Mo Dean and Emily Christensen gave the Lady Bruins ace all she would need with two swings of the bat in Saturday’s regional championship game at St. Bede.
OTTAWA - St. Bede met Ottawa Marquette at Masinelli Field Saturday at high noon to play for the regional championship. This low-hitting pitchers battle between Bruin starter Damin Smith and Cru starter Patrick Killilea ended in 2-1 win for St. Bede.
MANLIUS — Area State qualifiers came in pairs at Friday’s Bureau Valley 1A Sectional. In another case, a three of a kind trumped for a ticket to Charleston.
PLANO — Princeton’s Austen Stewart jumped his way to the IHSA State Track and Field Meet, winning the high jump championship at Plano 2A Sectional. He had a winning jump of six feet, three inches.

CHARLESTON — Lindsey Hoffert has jumped herself back into contention for another medal in the IHSA State Track and Field competition.
OREGON — The Princeton Tigers baseball season came to an end mainly due to one very freakish half inning. A key error, a crazy bounce and unexpected thunder helped the Oregon Hawks break what was shaping up to be a classic pitchers’ duel and blow the game open on the way to a 6-1 regional victory.
PERU — Princeton pitcher Madison Menzel wrangled her way out of trouble in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, keeping Princeton in contention of Wednesday’s Class 2A regional semifinal vs. Mendota at St. Bede. Even Houdini could only escape his traps so many times.
The St. Bede Bruins rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat Seneca 7-6 in 10 innings in regional baseball semifinal play Wednesday at Ottawa Marquette.

Earlville-Leland 14, LaMoille-Ohio 8: The Lions led 8-3 after three innings, but the Red Raiders (4-14) rallied by scoring 11 runs to advance Monday in the Putnam County Class 1A Regional.
Princeton placed second at the varsity level and first in the F/S level in the final NCIC boys track and field at Rathje Track last week.
PERU — When the basketball season was over this year at St. Bede Academy, Lady Bruins standout Mo Dean had enough of the game, telling the BCR she was going to go to college and just be a student. Turns out, she wasn’t ready to walk away from the game after all.
OTTAWA — Hall’s baseball squad traveled to Ottawa to face Ottawa-Marquette in regional play Thursday evening. The bats were quiet for the first three innings and unfortunately for the Red Devils when hits started coming in they were off the opposing bats.

The St. Bede Bruins rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat Seneca 7-6 in 10 innings in regional semifinal play Monday at Ottawa Marquette. Austin Schwab reached on a throwing error before scoring the game-winning run on a short sacrifice fly on the right side in foul territory by Brandon Piotrowski.
MANLIUS – The Bureau Valley Storm rallied late once this season to beat the Mendota Trojans. It occurred in the first game of an April 27 double-header on the very same baseball field.
If the seeds hold up, Bureau County athletes are in line for some more state medals in this weekend’s IHSA State Track and Field Meet in Charleston.
PERU — After a tense first inning Tuesday night, the Lady Bruins’ bats woke up delivering them a 7-1 win against Somonauk in the first round of the St. Bede 2A softball regional.

Most of the area track and field boys teams will assemble in Manlius for the Bureau Valley 1A Sectional meet. Amboy/LaMoille will compete at Oregon and Princeton will run in 2A at Plano.

MANLIUS — The Bureau Valley Storm (7-10) hosted Erie/Prophetstown in regional softball action Monday evening. It was a quick game that ended early due to the Panthers big 15-3 lead at the conclusion of the fifth inning.
Bureau Valley fell twice on both regional fronts on the Manlius campus Monday.
MANLIUS — Bureau Valley's Logan Hoffert enjoyed some home cooking Friday, winning three events in the Three Rivers Conference boys track and field championships at Storm Stadium.

MOLINE — The Princeton Tigresses’ soccer season came to an end as they suffered a crushing 8-1 loss to the Rock Island Alleman Pioneers Friday night in the Class 1A regional final rematch from last year.
The Princeton Tigresses rolled to the championship of the IVC Softball Tournament Friday evening, defeating the host Grey Ghosts 5-2 and Peoria Christian 10-0.
Bureau County has a new state champion.
SPRING VALLEY — Mount Mercy University has proven to be a safe haven for Hall High School runners in the past with the likes of Liz and T.J. Mosbach and Mikey and Kyle Miroux.
