SPRING VALLEY — A Spring Valley man was arrested after police say he broke down the door of a home and confronted the homeowner about a female companion in the residence.
According to the Spring Valley Police report, during a physical altercation between the two men, the homeowner obtain his handgun and fired three “warning shots” into a wall. Nobody was injured by gunfire.
The incident occurred in the 400 block of Elm Street at 4:30 a.m. March 10.
Austin J. Schmitt, 22, of Cherry, the man who broke into the home, was later located by police at St. Margaret’s Hospital where he was seeking treatment for injuries sustained in the altercation. He was charged with battery, criminal trespass to residence, and felony criminal damage to property and was taken to the Bureau County Jail.
