PRINCETON — Alta Lee Nelson, 92, passed away Monday, March 18, 2019, at Liberty Village in Princeton.
Alta was born in Princeton on Aug. 20, 1926, to the late Ernest and Rebecca (Warren) Underwood. She married the late Sheldon “Shelly” Nelson in Princeton in 1978.
She was a member of the New Hope Church of the Nazarene and was a homemaker almost her entire life, a job she did to the fullest and truly loved.
She was a very creative and imaginative person. She handmade porcelain dolls and teddy bears, including all their clothing. She was an expert at her craft of crocheting and made some amazing afghans. She made floral arrangements that could rival any florist and hybridized the most beautiful African violets to the point that people would contact her about purchasing them. Alta was a fantastic baker and cook, and was constantly making meals for the community and her church to help out families in need.
Alta is survived by two sons, Rick (Melanie) Feldges of Darien and Dennis Feldges of Princeton; one stepdaughter, Shellie Rae Sims; four grandchildren, Beth Feldges, Megan Feldges, David Sims and Marci (Caleb) Sturges; two great-grandsons, Sheldon and Lucien Sims; one sister, Gladys (Walter) Rowley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sheldon Nelson (2000); one daughter, Diane Feldges; one brother, Elbert Underwood; and five sisters, Kay Dyer, Mini Lange, Fanny Nave, Effie Underwood and Phyllis Munger.
