Raymond Marit

WALNUT — Raymond E. “Earl” Marit, 89, of Walnut died Friday morning, March 22, 2019, at Heritage Health Center in Walnut.

He was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Litchfield to Wesley and Ruby (Logsdon) Marit. He married Evelyn Paepke on July 3, 1954, at the First Christian Church in Walnut.

Earl farmed in rural Walnut for 40 years and had also worked at Motor Wheel in Mendota for more than 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Walnut United Methodist Church.

Earl and Evelyn loved to travel and see new places. He was a fan of the Chicago Bulls and enjoyed watching basketball on TV. Earl enjoyed collecting arrowheads, going to auctions and gardening. In his down time, he also enjoyed playing cards and playing bingo.

Survivors include his wife of almost 65 years, Evelyn, of Walnut; a daughter, Diane (John) Heitz of Normal; a son, Gary (Gail) Marit of Lewisburg, Ohio; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, a sister and a grandchild.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Poust officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Walnut Fire Department in his memory.
