Reflections on moms and an enjoyable Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day 2019 has come and gone. Once again, most of us celebrated and honored the person who has done more for us than anybody else in the world. The gift of life is quite precious.

Families celebrated that gift Sunday in many ways, I am sure. I am fortunate to still have my mother with us, and at 93, she is still pretty perky. My wife lost her mother a long time ago, and how we miss her.

Over my years around the guys I have worked with, I remember many not-so-complimentary comments about mothers-in-law. Mine was a real sweetheart. She was so jolly and enjoyed life.

Sadly, she did not get a real long one.

Mary and I decided this year to take Mom out to the Plantation Grille for their Mother’s Day brunch.

The food was great, the service was top-notch, and best of all, Mom really enjoyed the meal. Chef Rodney, Jackie and the rest of the staff made our visit a very pleasant one indeed.

In years past, the family had a large get-together to celebrate all the moms in the family. Now that is not so easy to do for many families, but that is life.

Most moms are happy with cards and flowers, or a box of chocolates and a phone call.

Next Mother’s Day is some time off now, but no matter how you celebrate, try to equal the love she gave (and still gives) to you.

You do not know how long you will have the opportunity to do so. There will come the time when all you have to celebrate on Mother’s Day are the memories.

Mike Johnson
