The Sauk Valley Skyhawks cross country team has landed in Albuqueque, including Princeton's Dillion Forbeck, Bureau Valley's Nataleigh Nugent and Haley Weidner and Amboy's Kelynn Boyle, for Saturday's Nationals.

Four local athletes will be running for the Sauk Valley Community College cross country team in the NJCAA National Meet in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Skyhawks advanced from the NJCAA Region IV Cross Country Championships Saturday at Carl Sandburg College in College.

Bureau Valley product Haley Weidner led Sauk Valley with a fifth-place finish in a time of 20:08 to earn All-Region honors. She was joined as an All-Region runner by Xheneta Beqiri, who finished in 12th place in a time of 21:08.

Kelynn Boyle (Amboy-LaMoille) finished in 21st place with a time of 22:17, and Nataleigh Nugent in 25th place with a time of 23:04.

Nugent overcame a stress fracture in her foot, taking a walking boot off just prior to the race to compete. Sauk coach Nick Hartz said Nugent’s injury was a recent occurrence.

“She knew that it was going to be painful, but she wanted to compete for the chance to go back to nationals,” Hartz said. “I’m so proud of what she was able to accomplish on Saturday. She has two weeks off until nationals. We will have her do some pool workouts to keep any stress off her foot and see how things feel as we get closer.”

Hartz said Boyle has had her share of hip issues she’s been working through.

Freshman Dillion Forbeck of Princeton paced the Sauk men with a 25th place finish with a time of 30:32. He and teammate Ruben Leal (30th) will be going to the NJCAA National Meet as well.

“Dillion has been one of our top two runners all through this season. As we got closer to Regions, his times have been quite good. His race at the meet was great to see and deserves to have a chance to run at the national meet,” Hartz said.
