PRINCETON — At 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, Bureau County Board members will host an on-site groundbreaking public event to mark the start of construction for the new Bureau County Law Enforcement Center and Jail at 800 Ace Road, Princeton, according to Sharon Schallhorn, Bureau County administrator.
County voters approved an additional 0.5 percent public safety sales tax for the construction project at the Nov. 6, 2018, election. The tax was imposed on July 1, 2019.
County board members approved the issuance of the General Obligation Bonds, Series 2019, in early May to fund the renovation and jail construction.
Vissering Construction from Streator was the low bidder and awarded contractor for the project. The new facility will replace the existing jail that was built in 1974 and is currently across the street from the courthouse in downtown Princeton.
