Richard DeBord

PRINCETON — Richard V. DeBord, 91, of Princeton passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019, in his home.

Richard was born Dec. 21, 1927, in Chicago to Fay and Marie (Menke) DeBord. He married Marjorie Ann Langley. He later married Nancy Hannon.

He was a graduate of St. Bede Academy. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II from 1945 until 1949. He was a State Farm Insurance agent for 33 years. He had an avid love for golf and cards.

He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church for 73 years and the Wyanet VFW for 60 years. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree and honorary Knights of Columbus 3rd degree for 50 years. He was past president of the Princeton Park District, a member of the Princeton Rotary and a member of the Princeton Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy DeBord of Princeton; his three children, Daniel (Patricia) DeBord of Apple Valley, Minn., Laurence (Dixie) DeBord of Yorkville and Susan M. (Scott) Phipps of Medina, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Tim DeBord, Allison (Phil) Buckvold, Autumn (Wes) Gilliam, Megan (John) Burke, Amanda (Dan) DeBord, Michael (Melanie) Phipps and Ryan Phipps; Nancy’s granddaughter, Autumn (Nick) Tiska; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marjorie, on Sept. 23, 1997; three brothers, John, William and Robert; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the St. Louis Catholic Church in Princeton with Father Daniel Gifford and Deacon John Murphy officiating. His family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Princeton, with military honors by the Wyanet VFW.

Memorials may be directed to St. Louis Catholic Church, the Wyanet VFW or the donor’s choice.
