Boys basketball: St. Bede 54, LaMoille-Ohio 44
LAMOILLE — St. Bede sophomore Paul Hart turned in a monster performance for the Bruins Wednesday night, posting 36 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Bruins to a 54-44 victory over LaMoille-Ohio on the Lions’ Senior Night.
The Lions led by as many as six points on the night, coming at 13-7 at first quarter’s end.
St. Bede rallied in the second quarter, and the game was knotted at 20-all at halftime, as Hart had scored 17 of the Bruins’ 20 total points by the break.
St. Bede used a 23-14 third quarter effort to push ahead for good.
L-O got to within five points of the Bruins, 43-38, with 5:49 left to play, but the hosts got no closer. St. Bede eventually led by as many as 14 points, late, before settling for a 10-point win.
The Lions shot just 4-16 from the floor over the final eight minutes.
St. Bede converted 16 of 19 free throws on the night.
The Lions, who were hampered by 25 turnovers, made good on only 8-17 free throws in the loss.
Hart’s 36 points came on 13 of 29 shots from the field, including 1-9 treys and 9-9 free throws. While no other Bruin reached double figures in scoring, Nathan Potthoff supplied seven points and nine rebounds for the winners, who improved to 10-18 on the season.
Marcus Winn’s 14 points paced the Lions (17-9), while Casen Cherry added 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds for L-O.
