Voter turnout in Tuesday's Bureau County primary, held during an outbreak of coronavirus, was 20 percent, according to unofficial results.
Of 23,217 registered voters, 4,638 ballots were cast, according to figures posted online by Bureau County Clerk Matt Eggers.
By comparison, in the presidential election year of 2016, primary turnout in Bureau County was 38.1 percent.
In March 2012, voter turnout in that year's presidential primary election was 24.6 percent.
Of the 4,638 ballots cast Tuesday, 773 ballots were from early voting and voting by mail, according to website figures.
Note: In a previous posted story, the Bureau County Republican had an incorrect number for the voter turnout. The BCR regrets the error.
