The Bureau, Putnam and Marshall County Health Departments reported May 15 that the first resident of Putnam County has tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Public health officials were notified of a positive test, according to state and local public health protocol.
The individual is a female in her late teens. The individual is recovering in isolation at home at this time.
Public health officials are in the beginning stages of the investigation and are working to identify individuals who were in contact with the case. Federal privacy restrictions prohibit the release of any additional information regarding this case. No further information regarding the investigation is available at this time.
As of May 15, there were 21 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the counties served by the Bureau, Putnam and Marshall County Health Departments. Bureau County has had 15 confirmed cases. Marshall County has had five confirmed cases. Putnam County has one confirmed case. The first case was reported in Marshall County on March 23; there has been one COVID-19 related death in Bureau County.
