A U.S. flag marks the grave of Chester James Averill at Oakland Cemetery in Princeton. A private in Company K, 110th Illinois Infantry Regiment during World War I, Averill died Nov. 9, 1918, two days before Armistice Day. He was 31. Memorial Day services on Monday have been adjusted because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Princeton Veterans Group will not have a Memorial Day parade or service in Soldiers and Sailors Park on Monday, but the group will conduct a service at 8 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery and then go to Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton for a service. From there, the group will travel to Prairie Repose in Dover and the Malden cemetery to perform services.
